Transmision-Piston to P-Noy: ‘Alkanse kaayo’

July 25, 2011

Davao City -  Militant transport group in the city greeted the State of the Nation Address (SONA) of P-noy with a protest rally of drivers and operators in front of the Department of Energy regional office here.

“Alkanse kaayo, this is the real state of the nation under P-Noy,” said Edil Gonzaga, Secretary General of Transmision-Piston pointing out that a year ago, when Pnoy first took office, a liter of diesel costs P38, now it’s P44; back then gasoline costs P45 a liter while now it costs P57. Diesel pump prices hiked 27 times in the last one year, further shrinking the already low incomes of majority small drivers and operators.

Gonzaga revealed, “nagkagamay ang kita sa mga driver karon, nagkamahal ang presyo sa piyesa sa sakyanan, ang lana ug ang tanang mga batakang palaliton. Mao ni ang tinuod namong kahimtang.”

Transmision also slammed the Smart cards calling it “useless” and challenged the government to, instead, scrap the 12% Value Added Tax in the petroleum products.

It also challenged P-Noy to come-up with concrete steps to curb the prices of petroleum products rather than to engaged in pure media blitz.

The recent 2 pesos increase on the price of oil gained criticism from the group and called such as ’heartless’ and a proof of government’s inutility.

Gonzaga added, “What ever happened to the investigations led by the government pertaining to the overpricing of oil prices by big companies? Are those investigations for media blitz only?”

Bayan earlier said that amid the oil price hikes, oil giants like Petron raked in superprofits, posting a 79% increase in its net income for the first quarter of 2011.

Gonzaga said that P-noy’s promises during his first year as a president were indeed broken promises,  as “the present administration is bound to be worse than the former GMA administration.”

He said, “ the continued implementation of P-Noy’s Public-Private-Partnership will make the poor, poorer. In the case of the drivers, the PPP will extort money from us for the road repair and maintenance. Rising MVUC fees cost us an arm and leg.”

Money collected from the Motor Vehicle Users Charge (MVUC) is reported to be utilized by the government for road maintenance and road infrastructure.

“P-noy failed to discipline even the Bureau of Customs to lessen if not eradicate smuggling, as corruption anywhere in the bureaucracy is still rampant. Pero kung ang mga driver gani makasala, makamatay ang penalty, is this the tuwid na daan?”

Militant drivers, likewise, slammed P-noy for its purely ‘blah-blah’ statements versus the hated GMA administration while no case has been filed by Malacanang versus GMA.

“P-Noy said that on his time, we can dream again, we want reality not dreams, we see no hope on his administration, ” said Gonzaga.

He said, “P-noy’s tirades versus GMA intend to cover his own rotten administration. If he is true to his anti-corruption campaign, he should prioritize sending GMA to jail.”

Gonzaga warns P-Noy of a transport strike anytime soon to push for the repeal of the Oil Deregulation Law and to protest against the incessant oil price increases.###
