CdeO acquires brand-new motorized rubber boat to boost its emergency rescue services

The City Government of Cagayan de Oro has acquired a brand new motorized rubber boat with complete accessories in an effort to boost its emergency rescue services during floodings.
City Mayor Vicente Y. Emano, assisted by City DILG Director Emil T. Rana, formally turned over the P469,000 worth aquamarine rubber boat to newly-installed City Fire Marshal Capt. Reynante S. Lorono during Tuesday’s flag raising ceremony at City Hall.
In his short message, Mayor Emano said he had long been strongly lobbying for the urgent purchase of two rubber boats in the wake of the devastating flashfloods that hit Cagayan de Oro City in January 2009.
The City Mayor observed that due to the lack of city-owned rubber boats, emergency rescuers and volunteers faced risks and difficulties in saving stranded flood victims under submerged houses.
Admitting that the city still needs additional rubber boats, Mayor Emano said the city will buy next year another unit of rubber boat in order to cater to the emergency rescue needs, covering the city’s eastern and western side.
The newly-purchased rubber boat is equipped with a 30 horse power outboard motor with two pieces of paddles, one piece foot pump, one piece wooden seat, 1 set Nepien first-aid kit and eight pieces of life vests.  (City Information Office)
