MILF names Said Sheik as new ceasefire panel chair

COTABATO CITY – The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) has named a new chairman of its ceasefire panel to sustain the existing ceasefire between the government and Moro rebels in Mindanao.
Said Sheik, also known as Abu Salman, was named chairman of the MILF’s Coordinating Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities (CCCH), replacing Toks Ebrahim who was earlier named as MILF spokesperson.
Ebrahim replaced Von Al-Haq as MILF spokesperson. Al-Haq has returned as MILF military general staff.
Said hails from Lanao del Norte and was appointed as ceasefire panel chair on July 1.
MILF chieftain Murad Ebrahim said the MILF is in the process of composing its peace panel members after Malacanang named UP College of Law Dean Marvic Leonen as peace panel chair.
Al-Haq said the MILF was optimistic that the stalled peace process would resume very soon.
He said while both sides were still reconstituting its peace panel members, the MILF saw the need to maintain the ceasefire as this would benefit both sides.(Philippine News Agency)
