Binay assures Davao’s teachers to settle GSIS problems

DAVAO CITY– Vice President Jejomar Binay vowed to solve the problems of teachers with the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS).
In his address before members of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines-Davao City Council on Wednesday here, Binay said he will put the teacher’s problems among his priorities.
“Uunahin ko ang mga problema ninyo sa GSIS. Aywan ko kung bakit umabot sa ganitong masaklap na sitwasyon ito, hayaan niyo at uunahin ko ito (I will prioritize your problem with GSIS. I don’t know why this happened, just give me chance to solve this),” Binay said at Grand Men Seng Hotel with an audience of around 400 educators and students.
Binay is the national president of the Boy Scout of the Philippines and is also the regional chair for the Asia Pacific Region, where 60 percent of total population of all boy scouts in the world.
Binay also advised teachers who are going to retire to check on the GSIS a year before their retirement.
Recently, Act Teachers Party-list called for an end to the alleged malpractices of GSIS president and general manager Winston Garcia.
Binay also vowed that the scholarship he offers will be strengthened in order to cater to more students.
“You can expect for it. Perhaps we can have it on the second semester or if not on the first semester of next school year,” he said.
Binay’s visit in the city is his first out-of town travel outside from the time he took his oath as occupying the second highest position in the country.
The gathering was scheduled to start at 1 p.m. but Binay’s 11:45 flight got delayed, thus, he arrived 3 p.m. at the venue.
Binay joked that he was late “because he did not use wang-wang.”
“Nagmadali ako paalis sa isang meeting kasi sabi ko, “Mr. President aalis na po ako ng 10:45 kasi ang flight ko 11:45. Eh bawal ang wang-wang kaya kailangang maaga. (I left early in one of our meetings. I told Mr. President that I have to leave at 10:45 because my flight is 11:45. Since wang-wang is prohibited, I have to leave early),” Binay said.
Binay’s convoys here did not have sirens.
He was personally welcomed by City Councilor Wendel Avisado, who heads the Boy Scout of the Philippines Southern Mindanao, and other officials.
